The successful partnership between head coach Alex Patoor and Almere City FC will end after this season. Patoor is primarily responsible for the biggest sporting successes so far in the early history of the youngest Dutch BVO.
In January 2022, Patoor took over in tough sports times. During that time, the current Premier League player was even at the bottom of the rankings in the Kitchen Champion Division. However, a quick recovery followed and City eventually competed for a place in the playoffs that season until the very last day.
A year later and with a largely revamped selection, City played their way to a solid third place in the final standings under Patoor’s leadership. The club reached the Eredivisie through several historic playoff games. New for City, but not for the Amsterdam coach. This was his third promotion as a trainer. He previously brought the two clubs Rotterdam Sparta and Excelsior to the Eredivisie.
Almere City FC are performing extremely well in the Eredivisie, partly due to their high-profile style of play. So coercion is just within reach, which would be a wonderful end to the ‘Pastor era’.
General manager John Bes says goodbye to Patoor with smiles and tears: “I’m proud of the adventure we’ve embarked on together and I’ll be forever grateful to Alex for helping Almere City FC rise to the sporting standard which I believe deserves to be fulfilled. “
Technical manager Johan Hansma: “Alex has played a very important role in the development and success of Almere City FC’s amazing sport and leaves behind a technical blueprint that we can continue to build on. I look back on a very pleasant collaboration and I wish Alex and his family all the best for the future.”
Head coach Alex Patoor: “It was a great time, and my job was to further develop the performance culture. In my opinion, this has been successful, mainly because of the best cooperation with the management of the club, the staff and the players. This journey is not over yet, and that means for all of us that we will enter the final stage of the competition with extra energy.”
