So far, heart surgery has to leave Kalimantan Island, even abroad. This success was announced by Siloam Hospital Balikpapan at a press conference following a successful cardiac surgery on a patient.
Director of Siloam Hospital Balikpapan, dr Danie Poluan explained, on Saturday, January 16, 2021, this hospital had successfully performed heart surgery. The type of surgery performed is Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) surgery or more commonly called Coronary Heart Bypass Surgery.
In simple terms, he explained, the CABG procedure is described as creating a new path (bypass) around the blocked artery. New pathways are needed for smooth blood flow so that the heart muscle gets enough nutrients and oxygen.
“The first open heart surgery in Balikpapan is certainly a matter of pride and an important history for Siloam Hospital Balikpapan, which continues to strive to provide the best health services to the people of Balikpapan City, especially services for patients with heart disease,” said Danie, Friday (21/1 / 2021).
He explained, this operation was carried out on a 50 year old man with a case of coronary heart disease. The Siloam Hospital Balikpapan Surgery Room is the venue for this open heart surgery.
Danie said, the head of the operation team was Dr. Ivan Joalsen Mangaratua who was also the main operator, accompanied by Dr. David Hermawan Chestian as an assistant operator and an anesthetist specialist Dr. Teddy Ferdinand. The operation was carried out on January 16, 2021.
In addition, in the process of patient care, specialists in their fields are handled. The 5 hour operation was a success.
After the operation was completed, the patient was transferred to the ICCU Room (Intensive Cardiac Care Unit) for observation. While in the ICCU Room, the recovery phase was quite fast and the patient’s condition became more stable. The next recovery phase was carried out on the 8th floor of the Siloam Hospital Balikpapan treatment room.
After 5 days of recovery, on Friday, January 22, 2021, the patient was allowed to go home from the hospital in good condition.
