The Success and Challenges of Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino left quite a positive impression on Tottenham Hotspur. According to Pochettino, his job is in Chelsea easier than at Tottenham.

The manager from Argentina is currently under great pressure after Chelsea fell apart at the start of the 2023/2024 season. The Blues have only won once and have lost three times in six Premier League matches.

As a result, Chelsea is in 14th place in the standings, just four points away from the relegation zone, and nine points behind the top four. After failing to win their last three matches, the Blue will try to break their bad run when they host Brighton in the third round of the English League Cup, Thursday (28/9) early morning WIB.

Chelsea is Pochettino’s second club since leaving Tottenham Hotspur in 2019. During his five years in North London, Pochettino built a reputation as one of the best managers.

Spurs brought Pochettino finished in the top four four times in six seasons, then finished runner-up in the Premier League and Champions League. Apart from that, the former Paris Saint-Germain coach promoted Harry Kane, who is now considered one of the greatest center forwards.

Pochettino’s contract only ends in 2025. However, Pochettino’s career at Chelsea could end sooner if he fails to win several other matches in the future.

“It’s not as difficult as it was for us at Southampton and Tottenham, believe me,” he was quoted as saying Evening Standard. “What’s missing is just scoring goals.”

“If you look at our first few months at Southampton or Tottenham, I think we are now playing much better. We did much better here but we lacked the most important thing in football, which is scoring goals. The job is no more difficult than in previous experiences how come,” Pochettino add.
