The series of exhibitions “Submarine War” began in the 1990s as an art design project, but in Liepāja one of its episodes can be seen for the first time, says curator, designer and artist Valters Kiršteins. During this time, painting and applied art gradually came into being. The works of the younger generation of painters can also be seen, fathers and daughters are already participating. “It all started with the exhibition of diploma works of the graduates of the Academy of Arts in 1995. The name floated, then disappeared, then returned again. It is a trademark. The project began to grow over people. We have set the level and the bar, there is a certain selection. This time, too, I had to refuse because the submarine is full, ”he notes.
The main lines of the exhibition have not changed over the years. “Who remembers it anymore, what it means and how it came about!” V. Kirstein smiles on the issue. ‘Someone joked about it, it’s already a foggy event. It swam up and everything, here we are. ”
The curator has a lot of experience in putting together so many authors, and they are all familiar. “It simply came to our notice then you, need to gather quickly after the crisis. The two previous exhibitions were “White” and “Black”. In order not to be complicated, we added red, ”he reveals.
