Difficulties in recruiting
The Berry Wood site in Meaulne, opened in 1994, thanks to the tenacity of the then mayor, Pierre Acolas, and the help of local communities, continues to develop by being the group’s center of excellence in terms of parquet floors. It designs and manufactures parquet floors of all qualities (6 mm solid, 2.8 mm floating and also very innovative) and is the leading French producer.

David Couty, the technical manager, highlighted the innovations and patents made by Berry Alloc, such as the “click” system which, thanks to the use of an aluminum underlay, makes installation and removal very easy. He mentioned the “colloring project” which will make it possible to print patterns on the parquet. This project will lead to an increase in the workforce at Meaulne from 100 to 120 employees.
David Couty told the sub-prefect of the difficulties encountered in recruiting qualified employees. The profession has indeed become extremely technical and people with training at BTS level or even bac + 4 5 in electromechanical fields are not legion wishing to settle in the region.
Three main problems were identified: poor knowledge on the part of local students of the possibilities offered by a factory like Berry Wood, the faulty rail link and the poor telecommunications network (fiber or mobile telephony).
Development is also currently hampered by the rise in timber prices. Indeed, if China has become an important market, it also makes massive purchases of wood in Europe, which makes supply difficult.
