For its new edition at the Parc des Expos in Nîmes, the Studyrama higher education fair was a huge success. Gardois en masse, but also families from Vaucluse or Hérault came, this Saturday, November 18, to try to understand the tricks of Parcoursup and find their way through the twists and turns of the orientation.
Ginette and Philippe have tense features and clenched jaws. Their children, Mathilda and Mathéo walk in the lead, their eyes darting on the name panels of each stand (more than 70 in all!). Coming from the Cévennes with his family to blend into the large crowd that walks the aisles of the Parc des Expos in Nîmes, he was “urgent” for them “to come and learn about higher education. The children are in 1st and 12th grade and still don’t know which path to follow”, blurted out the father of the family, a little cautiously. “And in the end we end up having more pressure than them!”. His daughter gives him a furious look before retorting, laughing: “Because you are stressed by nature. I know I want to follow a literary path”she explains. “But I don’t really know what yet. I would like to go into law, but I find that the marketing and communication professions are interesting. It’s true that it’s hot to have to decide like that, what We’re going to do our whole life like work!”.
Choose the right specialties
A stone’s throw away, Eléonore came with Cléa, her daughter who attends secondary school in Nîmes. She also doesn’t hide “put pressure on yourself to understand the new system. The meetings at the start of the new year at high school were quite electric. They explained the orientation to us straight away, it was from the second.” Cléa nods shyly behind her golden glasses. “I would like to become a diplomat. Obviously I have an idea of the specialties to choose in First, but I would like to be certain. And frankly it reassures me to be able to come here to freely ask the questions that worry me.”
Unravel the mysteries of Parcoursup
At the back of the immense building, a conference room has been designed to disseminate quality information and useful tips on priority subjects like the workings of Parcoursup. It was impossible at 2:15 p.m. to find a seat. Karima came with her friends “between girls” to attend this conference in particular. “I want to know exactly how it works. We hear everything and anything. That it’s random, that if you get good grades you don’t have to be taken. It’s scary. So you might as well know a once and for all.”
