The studies on pending road constructions were handed over to the Communities

Today, the Mayor of Ioannina, Dimitris Papageorgiou, handed over the studies that accurately reflect the outstanding issues with the opening of road networks in areas where the contribution of land and money has been made by the citizens to the Presidents of the Communities.

The Technical Service of the Municipality, after systematic work of several months, captured the existing condition of the road network as well as all the sections that should be opened as provided by the city plan.

Vassilis Tsouris, a member of the Technical Service of the Municipality, presented the studies about which the citizens of the regions can be extensively informed from now on.

-The first study concerns the areas of the Nea Zois and Kardamitsia Drainage Plans.

-The second study concerns the areas of the Kato Neochoropoulos, Seismoplekton and Katsika Drainage Plans.

As Mayor Dimitris Papageorgiou pointed out, this is the beginning of solving a decades-old problem. “Citizens have paid the levy in land and in money, but to date the opening of roads has not been completed. For the first time, a complete record of the needs was made and we all know the outstanding issues that exist and also their budget” he underlined.

To cover all outstanding issues, the sum of 12 million euros is required, which cannot come from co-financed programs as the specific costs are not eligible.

“This is a great obligation of the Municipality to the citizens. An obligation that was not created today but comes from the past. With the studies we deliver, we make the beginning. The Municipal Authority will look for any way of funding to meet the real needs that exist. In this context, as a last resort, we are also considering borrowing” underlined the Mayor.

The deputy mayor of works Giorgos Arletos thanked the technical service for the work it did and emphasized that it is the first time that the Municipality acquires a useful tool that captures the real situation as well as the amount of the expenditure.

“The contribution in money is not sufficient to cover these expenses. Nor can the technical program of our Municipality, which does not exceed 1.5 million on an annual basis, respond to such a range of interventions. There are financial tools that we will try to utilize for these needs” underlined Mr. Arletos.
