The newspaper “TO BIMA” institutes him first Panhellenic and Pan-Cypriot School Newspaper Competition for the 2024-2025 school year, which addressed to high school students from all over Greece and Cyprus. This competition aims to encourage creative and journalistic writing by highlighting students’ abilities in editorial and research work. More information about the Competition can be found here here.
Sponsored by the Ministries of Education of Greece and Cyprus and with academic support from five universities, the competition offers students the opportunity to create school newspapers with content including reports, interviews, articles on local community issues, current affairs, the environment and the concerns of the new generation.
The competition aims to encourage the cultivation of creative and journalistic writing skills, research and sourcing. At the same time, it aspires to be a stimulus for the development of love of reading and the development of critical literacy.
Deadlines and important dates
The tender process will be conducted in two phases. OR first phase includes the submission of participation applications from October 23 to November 24, 2024while nominations will be submitted from January 15 to February 28, 2025. After evaluation by the jury, a shortlist of school newspapers will be drawn up and put to a public vote from March 20 to March 30, 2025. The results will result from a combination of public (40%) and committee (60%) voting. The best newspapers will be awarded in May 2025.
The schedule in detail:
- 23/10 – 24/11/2024: Submission of participation from the country’s schools
- 15/1 – 28/02/2025: Submission of nominations
- 1/3-15/3/2025: Shortlisting by the jury
- 20/3 – 30/3/2025: Public voting process
- MAY 2025: Award ceremony
Prizes
The awards include a trip abroad as well as educational visits to the world’s largest news organizations. Special vouchers will also be given for free attendance of elearning programs. Finally, the provision of tablets and other “smart” devices is foreseen.
Prize details will be announced soon, motivating students to participate and showcase their talent.
