Edward Blom has been without his Nokia mobile phone for more than 20 days.
Now he talks about how many different ways it has complicated his life.
“It has turned out that it is actually almost impossible to live without a modern smartphone,” he writes in an email to Aftonbladet.
Edward Blom, 52, has posted on Instagram from his desktop computer that he has been without his mobile for an extended period, since he sent in his broken Nokia for warranty when the usb c port broke. The mobile phone has since ended up at a workshop in Hungary and Edward Blom suspects that it has been forgotten.
When Aftonbladet reaches the TV profile and gastronome, he has been without his mobile phone for more than 20 days.
“It has turned out that it is actually hardly possible to live without a modern smartphone, which is both surprising and terrifying,” he writes in an email to Aftonbladet.

List: Everything he couldn’t do
In the end, he borrowed an old phone from a friend that his SIM card worked in, but he quickly found himself dependent on a smartphone in ways he hadn’t thought of.
Here is everything Edward Blom couldn’t do without his smartphone:
1. “Three times I have tried to park the car in different places in central Stockholm and none of the parking machines were complete, so I could pay by card, without the required app.”
2. “I was able to enter my bank with their digipass. But signing documents was only possible with Bank-ID, which didn’t exist without the phone.”
3. “My food purchases via Klarna could not be determined when they would be withdrawn, so the risk is that I will incur a penalty for every single Klarna purchase in recent weeks.”
4. “I couldn’t write over the care guide to my GP, and they don’t seem to accept regular physical letters”.
5. “I couldn’t transfer money from my Avanza account when I was suddenly broke.”
6. “I had to start withdrawing money at the ATM because I couldn’t swipe small sums – like collection money in the church and so on.”
7. “Offers cannot be accepted either. They expect you to be able to click on from text messages to their websites and click on things there, which is not an option with many delivery companies.”
Edward Blom clarifies:
“A lot could of course be solved with a Bank ID on the computer, but obviously modern life requires that you either have a computer or a phone.”

List: The benefits of being smartphone-free
But there have also been benefits to being without a smartphone:
1. “I started reading newspapers and books more when I didn’t have the phone to kill excess time with.”
2. “I was forced to be quiet when I walked (without podcasts, radio programs and audio books) and it can be hard but is actually very useful to sometimes be forced to be alone with yourself in silence.”
Many have noted that it is unusual to have a Nokia these days, is there a reason why you have chosen Nokia over for example Iphone or Samsung?
“I liked that they were Finnish-made, had a bit of a nostalgic feel and I needed a phone that could withstand being dropped on the ground every week without the screen breaking. Unfortunately, the usb c port did not prove to be as durable.”
“Is not offended and does not rage”
Edward Blom says that Nokia gave the impression that it would be relatively quick to solve the problem as part of the warranty, but that this was not the case.
“Now I had to pay the same as if I had gone to the repairman on the corner, but instead of getting it done in a couple of days, it took a month, or whatever, haven’t got it back yet. I want to clarify that I do not feel personally offended and I do not rage. But I think it’s a consumer issue that applies to more than just me.”
Aftonbladet has contacted Nokia via their press email.
