The Struggle of Dialysis Patients: A Battle for Life and Financial Survival

The story of dialysis patients is a story of life or death, for those who suffer from these problems, as they constantly need treatment and medicine, while the cost to them is exorbitant, and they are all the time subject to extortion, and the bet is on their survival.

Recently, the cry of dialysis patients has resounded, after the hospitals returned to the tone of resorting to raising the tariff, and thus the citizen has to spend more money on treatment sessions, which he has no ability to bear his burdens, because it is definitely beyond their means, and the fear is for their situation in case The price of dialysis sessions per month has reached more than $300… Where will these patients get the money from, when their state has abandoned them?!

In this context, informed sources indicate that “Social Security has kept pace with the Ministry of Health in its decision No. 1/332 dated 04/05/2023, related to amending the tariff for the dialysis session and the tariff for the doctor’s fees, so that the hospital’s share becomes $53 or 5,240,000. L.L. And the doctor has $10 or 1,040,000 L.L., bringing the total to 6,280,000 pounds, and it turns out that the cost of one patient undergoing sessions amounted, according to informed sources, to one billion, two hundred and thirty-three million pounds.

Despite this, the problem of dialysis remains the same, as the sources confirm that “many hospitals have resorted to raising the tariff and even charging the doctor’s fees from patients, bearing in mind that what the hospital charges includes doctors’ fees for each patient and amounts to $100, which the latter bears.” And here the question is, where is the supervision of hospitals and how does the guarantee accept such violations, knowing that it pays for each patient to the hospital instead of the doctor’s fees.

More than that, a meeting was held between the Ministry of Health and Insurance, hospitals and donors to discuss the issue of dialysis last week. According to the sources, “not much was known about him, but some patients were informed of the tariff increase.” The head of the Syndicate of Private Hospitals, Suleiman Haroun, refused to comment on the matter, saying that the matter is “still in the negotiation stage.”

However, the sources stressed that “some hospitals have resorted to burdening dialysis patients with more burdens, given that subsidies have been lifted for the drug that is used during dialysis sessions, and the hospital cannot bear the cost, and here the controversy takes place,” a sign He indicated that “in the discussions, it was refused to charge the patients more costs on the grounds that the guarantee covers them, and for that, three hospitals violated that, and a warning was issued to one of them, and the case will be followed up with two hospitals.”

And waiting for a decision on the costs of dialysis patients, these people live every day under an atmosphere of fear and terror of what tomorrow brings them, due to the high cost on the one hand and the inability to secure it, in addition to the necessity of taking medication and the inability to fall behind in this matter on the other hand.
