AvtoVAZ performed almost a miracle: it maintained production in conditions of war and sanctions. But can he survive now – in competition with manufacturers from China?
In mid-December 2023, the head of AvtoVAZ Maxim Sokolov statedthat the company will not be able to compete with Chinese manufacturers in the Russian market without government support.
According to Sokolov, the need for such support is primarily related to the volume of Chinese automobile production, which significantly exceeds Russian ones.
Earlier in December, during a press conference by Vladimir Putin, a journalist paid the president’s attention to the prices of AvtoVAZ cars that have “flown into space.” In response, Putin said that prices had increased significantly, but not critically.
In September 2023, AvtoVAZ came under US sanctions. After this Sokolov said about the company’s problems with supplies and a possible decrease in production volumes.
We tell the story of the largest automaker in Russia – and how war and sanctions affect AvtoVAZ. The guest of this episode is Vakhtang Partsvania, professor of management at Caucasus University.
