As inflation continues to wreak havoc across the country, Canadian woman works 70 hours to continue her life as before, reports Radio-Canada.
Kelly Young, a young grandmother from Newfoundland and Labrador, juggles two jobs to pay her bills and maintain her standard of living. During the day, she works in administration in an engineering company and in the evening she is a waitress.
“You pay your rent, you pay your mortgage, you pay your bills,” when she explains what she does with her two salaries.
Radio-Canada indicates that it was his sleeping problems that led him to take a second job. “All you think about is your income. I think that’s when I realized I had to find a second job, she confided. “Just to supplement my income and pay my bills comfortably, so I can sleep at night,” she added.
The life of Kelly Young clearly illustrates the reality in which the inhabitants of Newfoundland and Labrador live.
In fact, according to data from a recent Abacus Data survey, 77% of respondents say they live paycheck to paycheck or find themselves forced into debt.
“You’re always falling behind. To the point where you rob Peter to pay Paul,” says Kelly Young.
To make matters worse, the cost of living is 4.1% higher than last year at the same time in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Radio-Canada points out that the cost of living in Newfoundland and Labrador was 25% lower 10 years ago.
