The blockade of the UMD is extended until May 28. Staff are asking for staff reinforcements

The social movement continues at the psychiatric hospital of Cadillac, in Gironde. Since Wednesday, May 12, the staff of the difficult patient unit (UMD) has taken turns holding the picket line in front of the concrete enclosure.

The strikers denounce the lack of personnel provided for by the medical-care plan proposed by a consulting company and which would call into question the commitments made by management in 2019 to update the staffing needs of the UMD over time.

“In psychiatry, the lack of stable and trained staff increases the isolation and restraint measures for patients,” said Jocelyne Goût, representative of the CGT union. “We’ve been exhausting ourselves for three years. We’re coming to the end. Today, we no longer even manage to provide the positions, it is unheard of, ”warns the trade unionist.

A week after the start of the movement, the hospital management did not open a discussion. First scheduled until May 18, the strike is extended until May 26.

New admissions blocked

Until then, the strikers continue to block the admissions of new patients, the therapeutic outings for the sick as well as the visits of relatives. Only laundry, catering and pharmacy services can enter and leave.

Among the demands, the striking staff asks for “the immediate recruitment of nurses, nursing assistants and hospital service agents on vacant positions and at the grade of trainee in the hospital public service in order to improve attractiveness. of the establishment “.

Staff also fear the move of catering to the kitchens of the Langon hospital. They ask for a real assessment of the cost of modernizing the catering service. “In psychiatry, restoration is an integral part of therapy. It is important for us to be able to exchange views with colleagues in the kitchen, ”Jocelyne Goût continues.

Contacted by “South West”, the hospital management has not yet followed up.
