/ world today news/ The USA is in shock – Moscow hit them in a very sore spot. Washington has always considered, and still considers, its “sacred right” to do unpleasant things to other countries, to issue instructions, but it is still not used to receiving change in the same coin.
They will have to get used to it: Russia has accepted the challenge of a hybrid war and has already taught the Americans a painful lesson in their own “thigh” – it was disrespectful of them to set Eurasia on fire.
The role of “educator” in this regard was assumed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who from April 17 to 21 is on a tour of Latin America, which Washington considers its “inheritance”, its “backyard” since the appearance of the infamous Monroe Doctrine.
Lavrov has already visited Brazil and Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba are coming. This is the first such visit since Russia adopted an updated foreign policy concept.
Its meaning is that Moscow has accepted the challenge of the hybrid war declared by the West against Russia, led by the United States, and will also wage it on a global scale.
Which completely coincides with the interests of countries that have long suffered from Washington, seeing Moscow as an ally in the cause of liberation from American oppression and dependence.
The war against US predatory interests in Latin America will be fought everywhere: in the political, commercial, economic, educational, humanitarian and cultural spheres. In the military-technical, of course, also.
Brazil is ours! Hysteria in Washington
It is too early to discuss the general results of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Latin American tour, as it is in full swing. But it is already clear that Brazil, Latin America’s largest country by population and economic power, has drawn even closer to Russia and China under the new government.
Trade is growing at a record pace. Brazil favors abandoning the US dollar in mutual payments, making friendly gestures to Iran. President Inacio Lula da Silva has criticized the course of the United States and its Western allies in fomenting conflict in Ukraine.
Lavrov’s visit confirmed that the US had finally lost Brazil. As Lavrov said at a joint press conference with his Brazilian counterpart Mairo Vieira, the pause in bilateral relations, caused mainly by the covid restrictions, has been completed: a schedule has been outlined for the resumption of the work of bilateral institutions, including two intergovernmental commissions (on trade-economic and scientific- technical cooperation and political issues).
This will allow “to resume their rhythmic work and make an inventory of all those issues, specific projects that require special attention.”
According to Lavrov, the entire range of Russian-Brazilian strategic partnership relations will be strengthened. The Russian foreign minister noted that Moscow and Brazil are interested in developing cooperation in the use of the peaceful atom, in space and agriculture, healthcare and pharmaceuticals.
This is especially important in light of Western sanctions against Russia, which Vieira strongly condemned:
“In addition to not being agreed with the UN Security Council, they have negative consequences for the economies of the world, especially for developing countries, many of which have not yet recovered from the pandemic.”
Lavrov was also received by the President of the Republic, to whom the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry conveyed an invitation from President Vladimir Putin to attend the Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
Celso Amorim, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva’s adviser on international affairs, negotiated with him. And they had a very fruitful conversation.
In an interview published after this meeting with the Brazilian newspaper Amorim, he condemned the Western policy in the Ukrainian conflict, which “does not contribute to the achievement of peace”, “does not create favorable conditions for negotiations” and serves to prolong the conflict. war.
The presidential adviser scoffed at the West’s intention to “weaken Russia” or “defeat Russia” as this “will not bring peace”.
“Russia is a big and important country, and it is also a partner of Brazil,” Amorim added.
Statements by Brazilian officials in support of Russia caused real hysteria in Washington. White House press secretary Karin Jean-Pierre said the US was “astonished” by their tone, that Brazil saw the US and Europe as “not interested in peace or that we share responsibility for the war”.
Washington, they say, “disagrees with some of the things President Lula has said.” She even acquitted herself, which is extremely rare for American officials.
With old friends
And then Lavrov moved to Venezuela, where he was welcomed, like an old friend, by the entire top leadership of the country. President Nicolás Maduro tweeted that he had “a pleasant meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister, strengthening bilateral relations and joint cooperation in various areas of development of our countries.”
Lavrov conveyed “warmest wishes, greetings” from Putin to Maduro and invited him “at any convenient moment” to visit Russia. The president of Venezuela, who received Lavrov in his official residence, emphasized in a conversation with him that he was aware of the fruitful work he had done in Brazil, stating his readiness “to advance the work on topics that unite us.”
Lavrov’s talks in Caracas with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil Pinto and Executive Vice President Delsey Rodriguez proved to be extremely effective.
At a joint press conference after the results of the negotiations with Lavrov, his Latin American counterpart announced the upcoming connection of Venezuela to the Mir payment system.
“This will definitely be discussed at the meeting of the intergovernmental commission that will be held in Russia in the coming weeks. We will soon give good news to both the people of Russia and the people of Venezuela,” he said.
According to Ivan Gil Pinto, Venezuela is interested in the transition to “a system that will free itself from the hegemony of the dollar.” The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed this information. Currently, the Russian payment system works in about 10 countries, and more than 15 countries have expressed readiness to implement it.
The truth from Lavrov and other meetings in Caracas
“In the last few years, everyone has already understood that dependence on the American dollar, on these principles of globalization, which the Americans themselves have been introducing into the life of the world community for many years, does not lead to good,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
“Because at any moment all these principles, including the free market, fair competition, the inviolability of property, the presumption of innocence, the Americans and their allies can violate in one day if they have to punish someone for disobedience,” he added.
Lavrov noted that Venezuela’s cooperation with Russia “actually contributes to strengthening the foundations of an independent national economy, independent of whims and blackmail” from the West.
Such relations, he pointed out, exist in Russia, in Latin America with Nicaragua and Cuba and are developing with other countries that intend to protect the identity and “legitimate, equal place of their region in the system that is now objectively being formed – the system of -a democratic and multipolar world order”.
And this is not rhetoric at all. In Caracas, Lavrov also met and talked with the Bolivian Minister of Foreign Affairs Rogelio Mayte and the Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, who arrived specially for the purpose.
In particular, he reminded his colleague from Bolivia of the invitation extended to the president of this friendly country, Luis Arce, to visit Russia (to discuss current issues and outline plans for the future). Lavrov also conveyed Putin’s “best wishes” to him…
As for Venezuela, the countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in oil production and development of gas fields, agriculture, medicine and pharmaceuticals, communications, space, the latest technologies, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
Lavrov promised to share with Venezuela Russia’s rich experience in avoiding Western sanctions, in which “we are now world champions”.
Lavrov proclaimed Russia’s reliability as a friend and partner, while the US “can lie at any moment” and “everyone knows that.”
“That is why we fully support the position of our Venezuelan friends. This is their country, this is their hydrocarbons, this is their economy, which is subject to the most severe illegal sanctions, and they themselves must decide how to continue to work, how to continue to develop their country,” he said.
“We will do everything possible to make the Venezuelan economy less and less dependent on the whims and geopolitical games of the United States or some other players from the Western camp,” stressed the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The Venezuelan counterpart of the Russian minister laughed at the US-appropriated “right” to issue judgments “for any reason” against other countries and their imagined “non-jurisdiction”, expressing confidence that the process of forming a multipolar world order will end with ” positive results for the majority of humanity.”
What follows from this?
Let’s put an end to this for now. The results of Lavrov’s visits to Nicaragua and Cuba will come out within days. But the intermediate results of the tour of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry in Latin America can already be summarized.
And the main result is the following. Almost entirely (Moscow also has excellent relations with Argentina and a number of other Latin American countries not mentioned above) Latin America is in the same camp with Russia as with China, and will strongly oppose the hegemony and neo-colonialism of The United States and its Western vassals.
During his tour, Lavrov resolved the practical issues of this interaction, which is very important not only for our partners in the Western Hemisphere, but also for Russia, the collapse of the Western sanctions grip. He is isolated, not us, and therefore we will win.
