Patience and effort are the keys to face the Covid-19 pandemic
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA—During the current pandemic, almost all citizens of the world, including in Indonesia, were tested by Allah SWT. Especially with the increasing number of cases again Covid-19 recently.
Often, many people feel hopeless in the face of God -given tests. Whereas in the letter of Al Baqarah verse 155, it is explained about the meaning of the test given by Allah as follows:
وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُمْ بِشَيْءٍ مِّنَ الْخَوْفِ وَالْجُوْعِ وَنَقْصٍ مِّنَ الْاَمْوَالِ وَالَنْفُسِ وَالثَّمَرٰرِّتِ
“And We will surely test you with a little fear, hunger, lack of wealth, soul, and fruits. And give glad tidings to those who are patient. ” (QS Al Baqarah 155).
“Gems cannot be polished without friction, and humans cannot be perfect without examinations,” said Ustadzah Hj Ruskha Nurur Ru’fah, a member of the MUI Da’wah and Ukhuwah Commission, as quoted from the Ulama’s Word Program on MUI TV, Friday (25/6).
This means, he said, this test is a process for us to reach perfection, like friction applied to a gem so that it can become a beautiful gem. That’s why we should be grateful when we are given a test, moreover, Allah promises something worth it for those of us who are always patient in facing tests from Him.
“The trials or tests that befall us have certainly been arranged by Allah SWT. If we are patient, Allah SWT will multiply the reward and help solve all the trials and tests faced by his people by praying, being patient, trying, and trusting, “he said.
He quoted the words Rasulullah SAW that no Muslim is pierced by a thorn or more than that, except that Allah will surely remove his mistakes. Like a tree shedding its leaves. (Narrated by Bukhari).
“So, we don’t need to be afraid when we are overtaken by trials and tribulations. At least we will not lose money, because Allah SWT will reward our patience and fortitude in facing this trial with things that we would never have thought of,” he said.
Ustadzah Rushka said, if the current exam includes al-khauf, fear of contracting disease, fear of economic decline, fear of loss of life. Besides, we feel waj’u or starvation, many of us lost our jobs, and lacked wealth and soul.
According to him, this test of Allah is nothing but a sign of Allah’s love in forming strong human beings and Muslims who have high faith qualities. At the end of the verse, Allah gives good news to those who are grateful (in accepting the test).
“This pandemic period, which is not clear when it will end, requires us to always be patient, be patient, be patient,” said Ustadzah Ruskha.
He invites to instill in us that trials are not torments, that trials are not punishment from Allah but rather Allah loves us very much, Allah loves His servants who believe and patient in the face of his trials.
As believing Muslims, we must always be patient, and improve the quality of our faith, increase worship to Allah, and increase muhasabah, improve ourselves, so that Allah will immediately lift this pandemic.
“Stay healthy, stay happy, and keep increasing faith and piety. Of course, to prevent us from contracting COVID-19, let’s apply health protocols by still wearing masks, washing our hands, and keeping our distance,” he reminded.
