For many foreigners like him, perhaps the many masculinity ornaments scattered throughout this village are simply obscene. In fact, he explained that this had something to do with the fertility philosophy of local residents. Moreover, this village has a Chimi Lhakhang temple or fertility temple.
“This is a very beautiful traditional Bhutanese village surrounded by rice fields. But the closer you get, the stranger it gets. The temple itself is equally strange. The big golden Buddha in the center is surrounded by phalluses of various shapes and sizes,” he said in the video he wrote. uploaded to his Instagram account @dnzh.travels, Sunday (24/9/2023) and quoted Friday (29/9).
This temple is said to be visited by many Buddhists who want to increase fertility. Especially for women who want children, they will also be given a wooden phallus and given the task of circling the temple three times.
Apart from that, it is also reported that many families in Bhutan keep wooden phalluses in their homes or walls. This is to increase fertility and pregnancy.
“Inside the temples, you can also find photos of success stories of couples who struggled to conceive, then went to the village and became pregnant shortly after. Unfortunately, you cannot take cameras or cellphones inside any temple in Bhutan – so ( there are) no photos inside. I was only there for a few hours and that was enough. Walked around, looked at the temples and had lunch,” he added.

For travelers or pilgrims who come here, they can also buy phallus-shaped souvenirs of various sizes and designs. Apart from that, there are also doll statues or t-shirts that have a masculinity theme.
“The most interesting thing is of course the souvenir shops selling stuffed penises in all shapes, sizes and colors. There are t-shirts, posters and everything you can imagine in the shape of a penis. Many Bhutanese people have penises bought from this village at home them,” he said.
Unfortunately, this unique village is not easily accessible. Because Bhutan has strict regulations against tourists entering the country and Daniel had to be escorted by a government official during his holiday. Plus, travelers must fly to India first before entering Bhutan, because direct flights to this country are quite rare.
