KAMPALA – There is an old saying that “You can’t bring wealth when you die.” But it seems that this saying doesn’t apply to an original man Uganda .

It was Charles Obong who broke that adage. The man who died at the age of 52 in 2016 was buried with Rp761 million in his coffin.

It is reported that Obong did it because he wanted to bribe God to forgive him for his sins and save him from hellfire.

The former Ugandan official, who died on December 17, 2016 after a long illness of unknown origin, specifically made the request in his will. He was buried in his ancestral home in Adag-ani village, Bar-pii parish, Aromo sub-district in Lira district, in a metal coffin estimated to cost more than $5 million, the report said.

According to his family, Obong feared his sins during his tenure – including corruption which doubled – will lead him to hell. He also requested that his brother and sister be present when his body was transferred to the coffin, to ensure that his wife secures the money in her coffin.

But after the church discovered his strange request, community elders dug up the money and returned it to the man’s family, saying it was taboo to bury someone with money.

One of the pastors in the area, Pastor Joel Agel Awio, was surprised by the move and said no money can buy eternal life, and God cannot accept such a “golden handshake.”
