The Story of the Online Courier’s Misfortune: Become a Victim of the Tariff Game

Jakarta

In the midst of the proliferation of e-commerce, online couriers have become a new source of livelihood. Even so, the fate of online couriers can be said to be sad.

According to Adi Putra, one of the couriers for an on-demand delivery service company, said that his income is currently decreasing due to lower shipping rates.

Adi has been an online courier where he currently works since 2018, after 4 years of working at the same place, the shipping rates have changed drastically. From the beginning of Rp. 16 thousand per 5 km as the basic fare, now it has become Rp. 8 thousand per 4 km.

“If it’s flashed back, I’ve been a courier from 2018 to where I am now. The tariff used to be much higher than now. In the past, the basic rate was IDR 16 thousand per 5 km. Now it’s only IDR 8 thousand per 4 km,” said Adi in a discussion. online Change.org, Wednesday (25/8/2021).

It didn’t stop there, he said there were also pieces from the applicator that were getting bigger. “That has not been deducted from the applicator, we only get Rp. 1,000 per km times if it is calculated,” he said.

According to Adi, he and other online couriers hope that the government can find a solution to the tariff problem. Adi asked the government to be present in regulating shipping rates, and not to let applicators play with tariffs.

“What we want to say is the issue of tariffs. These tariffs really affect the size of our income. Do not let naughty applicators play with tariffs,” said Adi.

Another sad fate is that as a partner, Adi said that online couriers are like being ‘slaves’ for applicators. According to him, many applicators provide unreasonable targets for couriers.

Couriers have to work harder and longer if they are to earn sufficient income. Not to mention the arrogant attitude of the applicator which is easy to suspend.

“We have long been considered as employees, they are their workers. In fact, no, this is a partner relationship. Partners are supposed to be profitable, this isn’t it,” said Adi.
