In this new episode of the podcast “At the heart of history”, Clémentine Portier-Kaltenbach retraces the life of a great American magician of Hungarian origin, the famous Harry Houdini. Born in Budapest in 1874, Houdini, whose real name is Ehrich Weisz, left to settle with his rabbi father and his brothers and sisters in the United States at the age of four. As in many emigrant families, Ehrich worked in the factory from his adolescence, then became a locksmith. At the time, traveling magicians were legion. They roam the small villages with their card games. At the age of 17, Ehrich crosses paths with one of these magicians, a certain Doctor Lynn. It was then that he had a revelation: he was going to use his talents to become the next Robert Houdin, a world reference in magic shows at the time… This story was produced by Europe 1 Studio.
