The story of the 55th parallel, a railway built “with hand oil”, interview with Jocelyne Lemay

Artist Jocelyne Lemay and Christine Lebel, education and cultural animation agent and communications manager at the Musée régional de la Côte-Nord.

Artist Jocelyne Lemay has worked hard to preserve and highlight the history of the 55th parallel. During an interview on Plaisir 94.1, she described the reasons why it is important to tell about the development of the north.

His exhibition in images at the Musée régional de la Côte-Nord will bring us back to life the story of the ascent to the north, passing through Schefferville, Kawawachikamach, Matimekush-Lac-John.

The way to make beaten “with the oil of arms”, as Mrs. Lemay likes to describe it, will have allowed to exploit the mining resources of these regions. This has created a close-knit, multicultural community, rich in events of all kinds and unique in the world by its determined inhabitants.

During the Côte-Nord Attitude program, Christine Lebel, education and cultural animation agent and communications manager at the museum, told us that it was important, in her opinion, to present Madame Lemay’s exhibition in order to allow citizens to discover this unique Nordic history.

The Musée régional de la Côte-Nord will present “A climb to the North: Schefferville, Kawawachikamach, Matimekush-Lac-John”, by Jocelyne Lemay from October 17, 2021 to March 2022.
