The Cultural Institute of the Province of Buenos Aires will hold a tribute this Tuesday, November 12, at 6 p.m. to Amneris Perusin Favero, better known as “Pirucha”, an outstanding lyrical singer of the Argentine Theater.
The event, titled “Amneris Perussin. Resonating in the lyrics of memory”, will take place in the Piazzolla Room of the Teatro Argentino Arts Center (Av. 51 between 9 and 10, La Plata). During the day, operas in which Pirucha participated will be performed, a short documentary film about her life and work will be shown, and costumes and unpublished photos of the artist will be exhibited.
A life dedicated to opera and fighting
Amneris Perusin was born in 1925 in Tres Arroyos, and from a young age he was inclined towards art. Her arrival at the Teatro Argentino in La Plata was led by her father, who brought her closer to the institution. Over time, Pirucha trained at the Teatro Opera School, where she began to forge her career as a lyrical singer. Throughout his career, he played iconic roles in operas such as La Traviata, Otello, Madame Butterfly and Aida, among many others.
In addition to his brilliant artistic career, Pirucha lived one of the hardest tragedies of his life when, in 1977, he lost his son Daniel Favero Perusín, who was kidnapped and disappeared by the dictatorship. This event would mark a turning point in her life, as she joined the struggle of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, seeking justice for her son and for all the disappeared. At the same time, the Teatro Argentino suffered a fire, and Pirucha witnessed the hardships experienced by the artists who, despite everything, continued to fight for the reconstruction of the theater.
An indelible legacy
Pirucha’s work and sacrifice were not only limited to music and social struggle, but also to her role as mother and grandmother. She raised her three children in the dressing rooms of the Teatro Argentino, surrounded by operas and her passion for art. Furthermore, his son Daniel, who trained in Literature at the National University of La Plata (UNLP), left a literary work that, although it remained unpublished until 1992, transcended for its deep and poetic content.
Today, more than 40 years after his disappearance, the tribute in La Plata is not only a recognition of his artistic career, but also of his tireless fight for memory, truth and justice. Throughout his life, Pirucha left an indelible mark on the cultural and social history of the city and the country.
