Asep, who is a member of Brimob, was declared missing in the tsunami incident when he was assigned to Aceh in 2004. At that time Asep had the rank of adjunct police brigadier (Asbrip).

When shown the photo of the RSJ patient, the family believed that the man was Asep, a member of their family.

“When we were shown the photo, we were sure it was our brother, there was a special characteristic of him,” said Burhan.

The older brother, he said, had a mole on his right ear and a stitch mark on his forehead.

“It was a wound when he was young, fell in the bathroom,” he said.

The family said they were grateful if the man was Asep.

“Believe it or not believe it at first. Because it was already being diluted, 40 days, one year it turned out to be still alive,” said Burhan.

Now the family will be flown to Aceh to meet directly with the man who is strongly suspected of being Asep.

The family is also still waiting for the results of the DNA test conducted by RSJ together with the Aceh Police team.
