JAKARTA – Former Commander of the Indonesian National Army (TNI) General (Ret.) Gatot Nurmantyo admitted that he had been offered the chair of general chairman Democratic party by certain parties. But he refused, because the way to occupy the seat was by overthrowing Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY).
Gatot said that in response to the question of the involvement of the Chief of Staff to the President (KSP) General (Purn) Moeldoko to overthrow AHY’s leadership in the Democrats. This statement was made by Gatot in Bang Arief’s YouTube broadcast as seen by MNC Portal, Sunday (7/3/2021).
At first Gatot was reluctant to comment on Moeldoko’s involvement. Then he told me that he had been offered a seat in the leadership of the Democrats by first removing AHY. At that time, Gatot immediately rejected the offer.
“There are also those who come to me. (They) come, oh interesting too, how is the process? ‘Well, sir, we will make an KLB, what we will do is we drop, replace AHY first (through) the motion of no confidence AHY finally stepped down. After AHY After the election, you will definitely be like this, “said Gatot, imitating the words of the person who offered him the seat of the Democrat leadership.

Gatot immediately rejected the offer. The reason is, when he was still in the TNI, he remembered the services of former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) who had raised him. Gatot was recorded as being appointed Pangkostrad and Chief of Army Staff (KSAD) in the SBY era.
“You know, I can go up to one, two stars, it is normal to go up to three stars, but if I go up to three stars, the President will know, the post of Pangkostrad is sure the president knows, especially when the president was the army at that time, Pak SBY, not carelessly. The Pangkostrad was summoned by SBY to the Palace, ‘I will make you the Army Chief of Staff,’ I thank you for this award and will be held accountable, “said Gatot.
When he appointed Gatot to be the Army Chief of Staff, SBY only advised Gatot to work professionally and to love the soldiers and their families sincerely. SBY did not give any other message in the discussion.
“He did not leave anything and other messages. I mean this, is it true that I was sentenced by two Presidents, first Pak SBY and Pak Jokowi. Then I replied by prying out his son?” said Gatot.
Gatot did not want to overthrow AHY’s leadership even though he received an offer to occupy the Democrat seat. He did not want the good things that had been given by SBY, to be repaid with negligence.
