Kees meets Carla for the first time near Valencia, where she has been living for some time. “I was actually born in Uruguay, but I lived in the Netherlands for a long time,” she tells the cameras of Scammers tackled. “I came here because I wanted to do something for the animals.” In Spain, Carla takes in stray dogs and cats, which she cares for and then puts up for adoption.
By selling a family home in Uruguay, Carla receives an amount of 140,000 euros, from which she would like to buy a house in Spain. Carla has not yet found the right house, so she decides to ask her good friend Christiaan to keep the money in his account for a while. “That was no problem.”
Carla would rather not deposit the money into her own account, because she would then have to pay a lot of tax. Because of her good relationship with Christiaan, she blindly trusts him with her money. Christiaan himself is very wealthy. That makes her feel safe. “If he has enough, he can never cheat me,” Carla thinks.
Nothing turns out to be further from the truth, because she never saw her money again. Kees visits Christiaan, who does business all over the world. At the open day of one of his wedding locations it’s a hit and Kees comes face to face with the man.
Kees confronts Christiaan. “She still gets a hundred and a half hundred euros from you. But are you going to pay?” He immediately runs away and says he is not interested in a conversation. Kees wants Christiaan to tell his side of the story, but he is not looking forward to that either. “I don’t have to explain it to you.”
Ultimately, Kees and Carla leave in consultation with the police and Carla subsequently hears nothing from Christiaan. The declaration that Carla filed in Spain is still being processed, but for now Carla is very happy with Kees’ help. “What you have done for me is so valuable. I really don’t know how to thank you,” said an emotional Carla.
