The Story of Baggott Maintaining Relationships with Indonesian National Team Players

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Elkan Baggott explain how to communicate with Indonesian National team during the training camp and during the 2021 AFF Cup (2020).

Baggott is a descendant of the Indonesian national team, who has a career in England, now playing at Ipswich Town.

This condition makes Baggott communicate in English everyday. However, not many Indonesian national team players are fluent in English.

Baggott did not lose his mind in order to have a good relationship with the Indonesian national team players, although not many players speak fluent English.

“With players who don’t speak English, I will meet one of the players, for example Ryuji [Utomo],” said Baggott quoted from YouTube PSSI.

“He speaks English and speaks Indonesian well,” Baggott added.

The 19-year-old player said the situation was the same as the Persib Bandung striker, Ezra Walian, who was not fluent in Indonesian.

However, Baggott was happy with a number of Indonesian players who tried to communicate in English.

“Also Ezra, like me, he can speak a little Indonesian,” said Baggott.

“There are also many players who can speak English a little bit,” Baggott continued.

Elkan Baggott realized that being able to speak Indonesian while with the Red and White Team was an important thing he needed to have. Because of that, the player who was born in Bangkok, Thailand did not stop learning Indonesian.

“But since I’ve been here, I’ve tried to speak Indonesian as much as possible so I can speak fluently,” said Baggott.

On that occasion Baggott also demonstrated his fluency in speaking Indonesian.

“My name is Elkan,” said Baggott, laughing.
