The story of a retired police officer from Malaga comes to Florida in the form of a documentary

‘My Uncle Manolo’ focuses on the experiences of Manuel Díaz Caballero, known as Manolo, who was a local policeman for more than 30 years and is the main motivation for this documentary, which takes us back to the memories of the long-lived member of the family by visiting the local police museum in Malaga. Some of you reading these lines will even remember having had some kind of relationship with Manolo, and you might want to remember your experiences through this short and, with a certain nostalgia, travel to a bygone Malaga.

This is the first professional short film by PJ Martinez (Pablo Jose Martinez), who studied Audiovisual Communication at the University of Malaga. The Melrose International Film Festival is a festival that highlights the work of imaginative filmmakers from around the world. This annual festival is dedicated to celebrating the art of visual storytelling in short films, animations and documentaries. An event held at the Melrose Center in Orlando, where there will also be virtual screenings, industry panels and Q&A sessions with the directors.

It is the third selection in the United States

And this is not the first time that Manolo’s story has travelled to the United States. This is the third time that it has been selected in the United States, after having been selected in April at the Bifocal student festival held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and winning the award for best international documentary short film at the first edition of the Compton’s Hub City International Film Festival held last August in Compton, California.

This is the ninth time the project has been selected in total, having been shown at festivals in Colombia, Algeria, India and Kazakhstan, winning the award for best documentary short film at the Zabrinsky International Film Festival in Colombia, another award in the same category at the Majestic King International Film Festival and the honourable mention for best documentary short film at the Thilsri International Film Festival, both in India, and being a finalist in the youth documentary section of the Dreamers Film Festival in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
