Katha MG first saw Girish Puthanchery through his YouTube channel. Sreekumar said. Sreekumar begins the story by saying that his memories begin at home in Meda. One day it will be half past eight o’clock. Someone comes when I am drinking coffee with my mother. He seems to be wearing a green shirt. He had undone the first three buttons of his shirt. They seem to be unnecessary. Radhakrishnan asked if he had a brother. He said he was inside. When asked who he was and where he came from, he said that his name was Girish and that he was coming from Kozhikode. When asked why he came, director Sasiyetan told me. M.G said that he was going to write a song for the movie Devasuram. Sreekumar remembered.
The mother, who was listening to this, intervened. He called the guest and asked him to take him inside and give him food. By the time he had finished eating, the brother who was taking a bath came. Girish was asked if he had any previous experience of writing songs. The reply was that it had been written and nothing had come out. Chetan also said that after half an hour we can go to Trivandrum club and leave the rest there.
‘The room at the Trivandrum club is in cottage number four. We went there in Chetan’s car. Picking up the harmonium and keeping it close, Chet started to tighten it as usual. Girish is sitting in a corner of the room. Chetan asked me to write one or four lines. Then Girish very humbly said, bro, if you give me a tune, I will write it accordingly. Chetan really doesn’t like writing lyrics after singing the melody. But he picked up the harmonium and hummed a tune. The intention was only to create a mood. Then he asked Girish to write the lyrics.’ Sreekumar continued.
Nothing happened that afternoon. At half past three, everyone gathered again. Then Girish took a small piece of paper and told me to see if it fits. Those were the lines written according to the meter, according to the tune that Chetan had just sung earlier. Those lines were, “The crown of the sun has fallen, and the shadow of the soul is falling in the evening.” M.G said that Chetan hugged Girish asking where were you, my gold. Sreekumar said.
