The stewards rejected a request to review Vettel’s disqualification. The appeal will be decided later – F1sport.cz

Sebastian Vettel was disqualified from the Hungarian Grand Prix. The FIA failed to get a liter of fuel from his car after the race, according to the rules. There were only 300 milliliters in the tank.

Aston Martin took two steps. He appealed against the decision and also asked for a review of the decision – the same thing Red Bull did recently about Hamilton’s penalty at Silverstone.

New information is not relevant

The stewards rejected the request for review. Aston Martin provided detailed information from its fuel system. He tried to prove that a breakdown occurred during the race. As a result, “Vettel’s car inadvertently drained a significant amount of fuel from the fuel cell during the race.”

According to the rules, after requesting a review of the decision, the team must provide new facts that were not available to stewards at the time of the decision. The Stewards agreed that this evidence was a “new element.” At the same time, according to them, this does not change the fact that Aston Martin was not able to provide a sufficient sample of fuel after the race.

Aston Martin believed there was 1.74 liters in his car. He proved this by the difference between the amount of fuel refueled and what the flow meter measured during the race.

An analysis of various data carried out after 1 August finally showed that less than one liter of fuel actually remained in the car after the race, precisely because of an initially unobserved failure in the fuel system.

According to the rules, the team must be able to get a liter of fuel from the car for possible analysis of its composition. Exceptions are not allowed.

Although the request for review has been rejected, the appeal is still pending. It is a separate process. If Aston Martin does not withdraw the appeal, the FIA will convene a court of appeal.
