The Stevanovic family needs an operation!

Goran Stevanovic lives with his three children in a cramped apartment without an elevator in Nis, Serbia. Everyday life is full of challenges here. His daughter Andreja, 16, has already undergone 27 operations to treat the lack of bones in her lower leg. His son Viktor, 13, also has difficulty walking due to a knee injury. Father Goran is faced with the task every day of enabling his children to lead a normal life despite adverse circumstances.

Goran has managed to create a loving environment in the small 30 square meter apartment. Together with his children, he looks after injured animals and releases them after they have recovered. The family currently includes a rabbit, a parrot, a few fish and an unnamed injured bird. They call this special home “Animal Kingdom”.

Dream of a better future

In addition to the health challenges, the Stevanovics also fight against social prejudices. Viktor experiences bullying at school and learning is difficult for him without a computer or cell phone. A lack of technical aids affects his self-confidence. Goran explains that the surgical procedures in Russia, which are intended to relieve Andreja’s pain, could also solve Viktor’s problems in the long term. With support from the city of Nis and generous donations, they were able to make the long journey to Russia despite the burdens of the current geopolitical tensions.

Call for donations

For Goran, a better environment is his greatest wish. “An accommodation with several rooms and a garden would be ideal to offer my children a barrier-free life,” he says. Despite the challenges, he never loses his optimism and continues to believe in miracles and the support of holy patrons.

This is a call for donations to support the organization “Srbi za Srbe”, which provides humanitarian aid.
