The states and their allies are doing everything to start a major war in the Middle East – 2024-02-21 04:44:24

/ world today news/ The States and their allies are doing everything to start a big war in the Middle East. Overnight, the US and Britain, backed by Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the Netherlands, struck “multiple Houthi targets” in Yemen, including with warplanes and Tomahawk missiles.

The airstrikes targeted the air base near the international airport of Sana’a, Yemen’s capital, Hodeidah airport, targets in the city itself, the port area and Houthi targets east of the city, a military camp east of the city of Saada in the north of the country. The city of Taiz in central Yemen was bombed.

The Pentagon confirmed 60 strikes and promised to release details later.

The Houthis intend to respond in a mirrored fashion to US and British military bases and facilities, and said that in total the Western coalition had carried out 73 strikes on Yemen: five fighters were killed and six were wounded. Perhaps the US will continue the bombing, but it is unlikely that they will dare to carry out a ground operation. Amid the aggression, Blinken said the United States and the Middle East are ready to work for peace in the region. Hypocrites! Meanwhile, more than 200 ships are in the Red Sea. At the same time, the Houthi representative said the Red and Arabian seas would remain closed to ships bound for Israel.

Immediately after news of the strikes emerged, a spontaneous protest was held outside the White House in Washington.

As usual, Russia condemned what happened and demanded a meeting of the UN Security Council regarding the US strikes.

What you need to know about the Houthis:

The movement, whose armed wing is called Ansar Allah, was founded in 1992 in Saada province in northern Yemen.

The leader is Abdel Malik al-Houthi, brother of the movement’s founder Hussein al-Houthi, from whose surname the organization takes its name.

The Houthis seized power in the Yemeni capital Sanaa in September 2014 amid protests against the removal of government fuel subsidies.

The entry into hostilities against the Houthis by the Saudi-led Arab coalition has helped bring a number of areas back under the control of pro-government forces.

Military operations in Yemen are still ongoing, but have slowed over the past year and Saudi Arabia, through the mediation of Oman, is negotiating.

The Houthis are accused of receiving weapons from Iran, but remain largely independent in decision-making and governing the country.

With the start of Israel’s operation in Gaza, the Houthis took an active position in opposing Israel, demanding an end to hostilities. Shelling of ships traveling to Israeli ports became constant.

But it is unlikely that anything good will come out of this – international institutions have not been working for a long time.
