The state will send two billion to fast internet, reach 47,000 households

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT) will distribute 1.9 billion crowns from the OP EIC program for building fast internet in the Czech Republic. Another 600 million are to be added by private investors. The total amount of 2.5 billion crowns is enough to cover about 47,000 households.

“The Ministry of Industry and Trade evaluated two calls, of which it recommended the implementation of 64 projects to speed up the Internet in municipalities and cities. A total of 47,000 households should be newly connected to high-speed internet. The implementation date is until May 2023. One of the localities is, for example, Pec pod Sněžkou. A large number of projects are concentrated north of Brno (Kunštát, Blansko, Bystřice nad Pernštejnem and surroundings). The border in Lanžhot on the tri-border with Austria and Slovakia should also be covered. On the other side of the republic, the location of Hřensko or a number of municipalities in the Frýdlant foothills on the border with Poland, ”the office states.

“The projects are aimed at 718 basic housing units, in which a high-speed Internet connection with speeds of at least 30 Mb / s is not yet available to the necessary extent. The aim is to provide a high-speed Internet connection for at least 47,000 flats for which such a connection has not been available so far and none of the Internet connection service providers was interested in putting it into operation within three years, ”the MIT further describes.

“Projects are different. The largest project addresses the connection of more than 7,000 flats in the area between Žďár nad Sázavou and Brno, the smallest project will connect 13 flats in the village in the Sokolovská region. Together, successful projects cover more than 33% of the needs. ”
