President Daniel Noboa established, through Decree 260, that the Ministry of energy Take the pertinent actions so that the State grants a 50% discount to users of the public electric service due to the power outages last month.
The entities that make up the electricity sector will have twenty days to comply with this provision.
The Energy Portfolio will have to coordinate with the Agency for the Regulation and Control of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources the preparation of legal and technical reports, as well as the calculation of the amount of compensation for the disbursement of the Ministry of Finance.
The values resulting from the economic evaluation will be transferred to the Electrical Distribution Companies, establishes the Decree.
According to Ecuavisa, Noboa had announced that said 50% discount will be made on electricity bills. However, the Minister of Energy, Roberto Luqueassured that how to provide the benefit was still being analyzed.
«We do not know if (the discount) will be directly on the payroll or in some subsequent compensation mechanism. The 50% (discount) will be respected, what we don’t know is if it will be on the payroll or if there will be compensation later,” he explained in a press conference on April 30.
