“The government needs time, puts out the problems and is working to restart the economy. However, the Czech Republic can emerge stronger from the crisis if everyone is involved, “said Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (YES) at the plenary.
–
At the same time, he pointed out that all measures are starting to take effect at a certain distance. However, the latest one has been in force since Wednesday, and without a state of emergency, it would expire.
–
Babiš thus called on the deputies present to support the government’s proposal for an extension until 3 December.
–
However, part of the opposition opposed this. On behalf of the Pirates, the head of their parliamentary club, Jakub Michálek, even demanded that it be extended by only two weeks. “We want the House to retain control over the government’s actions,” he explained.
–
On the contrary, the ODS together with KDU-ČSL agreed on the three-week extension from the beginning. “The government froze and unfortunately did not use the summer period to prepare for the second wave,” said the People’s Physician Vít Kaňkovský.
–
In a state of emergency, the government may, on the basis of the crisis law, introduce stricter measures, including widespread interventions in fundamental rights, for which the decision of the Minister of Health under the Public Health Protection Act is not sufficient. However, the scope of the restriction must be defined in advance.
–
A state of emergency can be declared for a maximum of 30 days, with the subsequent extension must be approved by the Chamber of Deputies.
