The opposition did not agree to the extension of the state of emergency by one month, as proposed by the government. She demanded, for example, its complete abolition, or its extension for only a week or fourteen days.

At the plenary, the opposition rebuked the government representatives, among other things, for not allowing it to be opened to retailers. She also criticized the new measure, which limits the number of people in stores.

“I can’t buy a book in my favorite small bookstore, but I can buy it in a hypermarket,” lamented, for example, the Civic Democrat Zbyněk Stanjura. He added that this is just one of many measures that, according to him, cannot be understood by the citizens themselves.

Without the consent of the House, the state of emergency would end on Friday, November 20. However, it is subject to restrictions to limit the spread of the disease, as set out in the new anti-epidemic system of the Ministry of Health (PES).

The House approved the extension at the end of October. As now, the cabinet asked for an extra 30 days, when deputies then agreed to 17 days, according to a proposal by part of the opposition. Overall, the state of emergency in the Czech Republic has been in place since 5 October.
