The Prime Minister Kiril Petkov took part in an external meeting of the Advisory Council on Grain, which discussed the provision of food for the population and the problems facing the sector, the government’s press service said.

The conversation was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for EU Funds and Minister of Finance Asen Vassilev, Deputy Prime Minister for Economy and Industry and Minister of Economy and Industry Cornelia Ninova and Minister of Agriculture Ivan Ivanov. Representatives of the grain producers and grain processors, as well as the breeders and traders from the sector took part in the discussion on behalf of the branch organizations.

During the meeting, the position was reached for the state to enter the grain market and buy the necessary quantities to meet the needs of the Bulgarian population. In this way, farmers will be able to sell their products, and on the other hand Bulgarian citizens will not have to worry about shortages in the market in our country. The mechanism by which the state should buy the grain is to be specified.

Talks on the topic will continue at a working meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture to clarify the details of the necessary actions.

At the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Kiril Petkov stressed that the government aims to help Bulgarian farmers so that they can produce not only raw materials but also products with high added value. Petkov called on the representatives of the sector to actively submit signals if they have information about abuses and unfair practices, which is in the interest of all parties.
