The State Energy Efficiency Agency strengthens cooperation with the UN Development Program in Ukraine – Government Courier

The head of the State Energy Efficiency Agency, Hanna Zamazeyeva, held a meeting with the permanent representative of the UNDP in Ukraine, Jako Silje, with whom she discussed the priority areas of partnership in the field of energy efficiency and decarbonization. This is reported by the Government portal.

“UNDP is one of the reliable and important partners of Ukraine in the field of energy efficiency, green transformation and decarbonization. I hope for a deepening of cooperation, because all these joint directions are important during the recovery of communities and the regional economy”, – noted the Head of the State Energy Efficiency Agency, Hanna Zamazeyeva.

Currently, the Agency actively cooperates with UNDP on the energy efficiency of public buildings. Work is underway on the implementation of energy management systems, the development of energy services, the preparation of the legal basis for the implementation of the Law of Ukraine “On Energy Efficiency”, etc.

At the same time, the State Energy Efficiency Agency is open to new initiatives and is working out ways to increase energy efficiency in all sectors of the economy: the housing sector, heat supply systems, water supply, industry and transport.

“We are sure that only a comprehensive approach is the basis for solving the task – restoration with the use of energy-efficient approaches, solutions and technologies,” explained Hanna Zamazeyeva.

Talking about his work and participation in reconstruction projects, Jako Silje confirmed: “Energy efficiency should be a key component of the restoration according to the principle of “Build Back Better”. Such projects need to be scaled up. It is also important to stimulate the attraction of ESCO investments, which we are working on together.”

The parties also focused on plans to strengthen cooperation with local self-government bodies to support them in implementing both energy management systems and energy saving projects.

The development of bioenergy is also relevant for communities, which will contribute to the decentralization of energy supply sources.

“We are ready to make efforts to launch new projects. There are many tasks and challenges ahead of us, and I hope that in cooperation with UNDP we will be able to achieve the expected results,” concluded the Head of the State Energy Efficiency Agency and expressed her gratitude to UNDP for technical assistance to increase the Agency’s institutional capacity, which will help to efficiently and promptly perform complex tasks.

At the end of the meeting, Jako Silje confirmed the readiness of UNDP to provide support to the State Energy Efficiency Agency in the development of energy efficiency, including as part of an upcoming regional project related to improving the energy efficiency of the global supply chain of the construction industry.
