On Sunday, the President of the Audit Bureau, Khaled Shakshak, met at the Bureau’s headquarters in Tripoli, Chargé d’Affairs of the British Embassy in Libya, Catherine Wilde, and her accompanying delegation, in the presence of some of the competent departments of the Bureau.
The meeting dealt with many important files within the framework of the Bureau’s endeavor to achieve effective control over public money, including the contract signed with the English International Accounting Office “RSM” to review some Libyan investments in the United Kingdom, and preparation for a contract with the same office to review some files in the oil sector, according to what she said. The meeting also discussed the debts of some English health institutions and others to the Libyan state, payment procedures and the role of the Bureau in following up this file.
The Chief of the Bureau stressed the importance of international cooperation in developing oversight work in line with international standards, which ensures transparency and accountability. This prompts the preservation of public money with the participation of stakeholders.
For her part, Wilde said in a tweet on his Twitter account after the meeting, that transparency in public funds is necessary to ensure that Libya’s resources are used for the benefit of all Libyans, according to her.
