For half a year, a total of 7,845 persons sought protection in Bulgaria. 3,571 of them are citizens of Afghanistan, 2,550 of Iraq, 966 of Syria, 498 of Pakistan and 101 of Iran. For the first six months of the year, the Bulgarian authorities granted refugee status to 280 persons. It was denied to 321 persons of foreign origin.
If the trend of the refugee flow continues in the second half of the year, 2016 will be the second year in terms of the number of refugees who have sought protection in our country since the beginning of the century. In terms of migrant pressure, 2015 was a record year, when in Bulgaria 20,391 persons of foreign origin announced that they were seeking protection.
