The starting shot for the rail project Regional Tangente West can probably be given in the first quarter of 2022.

The rail project Regional Tangente West (RTW) has been planned for years, now it is about to be implemented. Claudia Jäger, first alderman of the Offenbach district, said when the district budget was presented that construction was scheduled to start in early 2022.

“If it goes well, the RTW could start in the first quarter of 2022”, confirmed managing director Horst Amann. The plan approval section South 1 is then the first that can be tackled. That means: the section from Kelsterbach to Dreieich. The focus is on the section from Frankfurt Stadion station via Neu-Isenburg station to Dreieich-Buchschlag.

“It looks very good as far as the plan approval procedure for the South 1 section is concerned,” says Amann. His company still has “some homework” to do. The decision is ultimately made by the regional council as the approval authority, which “still has to check our homework,” says Amann. And yet the decision of the authority could still be available in the first quarter of 2022 – and then construction could begin immediately. “We start with an arched bridge to cross the Stadion station and with a short follow-up with a railway underpass at Neu-Isenburg station,” says Amann. The RTW trains are to cross this station underground.

The South 1 section also includes the Mörfelder Landstraße stop, which is being newly created, as well as a junction at Neu-Isenburg train station in the direction of the city. The branch line through Neu-Isenburg is combined under the construction section South 2. The South 1 section should be ready in 2027, according to Amann. The application for funding for the construction has been submitted, but has not yet been approved. Around 85 percent of the construction costs are borne by the federal and state governments, the rest are borne by the 13 RTW shareholders.
