The upcoming season of the highest Slovak hockey competition will begin on September 16 and culminate on April 27 at the latest.
At Thursday’s meeting, the members of the Executive Committee of the SZĽH approved the schedule of the Tipos extraliga, the Slovak Hockey League (SHL), the model of both professional senior competitions and the 2nd senior league.
According to the approved model, the last Tipos extraliga team is relegated directly to the lower Slovak hockey league. At the same time, the winner of the SHL advances to the elite Slovak competition just as directly.
“We have approved the competition model for a four-year period so that all clubs know in advance what game model they have to count on and can arrange themselves accordingly in all directions. We continue to believe that our clubs will give space to young Slovak players to develop. In last season we witnessed that such an approach to the education of Slovak hockey players also brings fruit to the clubs themselves,” SZĽH President Miroslav Šatan stated for the website hockeyslovakia.sk.
Clubs must submit confirmation of fulfillment of obligations for the previous season by August 5. The Executive Committee of the SZĽH will then approve the licenses to start in individual competitions managed by the Slovak Ice Hockey Association. The model of direct promotion will also be copied by the third highest Slovak competition, known as the 2nd senior league.
“The model of the competition basically does not change. The only change is that the team that finishes in twelfth place after the regular part of the Tipos extra league is directly relegated to the Slovak Hockey League, and the winner of the Slovak Hockey League directly advances to the extra league.
Likewise, the winner of the Second League directly advances to the SHL, and the twelfth SHL team is directly relegated to the Second League. The difference from last season is also that the dates of the playoffs will no longer be floating, but will be fixed in advance, even if some series end earlier.” the manager of the Sports Department of SZĽH Rastislav Konečný explained the technical details.
The Slovak hockey league will start on Sunday, September 25, the top competition a week earlier on Friday, September 16.
