ASTROLOGY – They have hundreds of thousands of subscribers, are solicited by large publishing houses … These accounts on social networks do not talk about fashion or beauty, they specialize in astrology. On Instagram, they are called Astrotruc, Astro.lya, Invente ton ciel or Sophie Keller. On YouTube, Emma Bossé and Shera Kerienski do the same job.

Since the start of 2020, these accounts have seen a steady increase in their subscribers, according to the Socialblade website. On average on Instagram, more than 10,000 additional people, if not more, follow them each month. “I started my Instagram account out of passion and I saw tens of thousands of people come to my page, share my content, come talk to me. In four-five months, I had a great community. I very quickly had 100,000 subscribers ”, specifies in HuffPost LIFE Shana Lyès, astrologer and founder of the Instagram account Astrolya, who has just published the book “Astrolove”Published by Harlequin. She launched her profile in September 2019 and reached 100,000 people in less than 6 months.

A growing interest of young people in astrology
Why are we more interested in astrology? For Sophie Hérolt Petitpas, journalist, author and astrologer for twenty years, this interest in the esoteric universe is hardly surprising. “For me, it is part of this return of a certain feminism closely linked to the earth that we can call ecofeminism which puts a lot of emphasis on natural practices such as herbalism, stones and astrology ”, she explains to HuffPost LIFE. The offer on these subjects has been enriched with in particular the success of books such as “Witches: The unbeaten power of women” by Mona Chollet.

With the health crisis, the craze for this universe has accelerated. “Regularly, when our societies are crossed by doubts, by great changes as is currently the case, all these somewhat esoteric disciplines come back to the fore because we realize that we have perhaps you need a slightly different perspective, a little offbeat, a little more open to the imagination, to the soul to find answers ”, explains Sophie Hérolt Petitpas.

However, for Romy Sauvayre, a sociologist of beliefs at the University of Clermont Auvergne and at the CNRS, the link between confinement and growing interest in astrology is not verified. “The link with confinement is sporadic”, she tells us, as you can see in the video above. Only one connection can be made with the current situation, “it is when, for a person, astrology helps reduce uncertainty about the future. At the moment, we are in a very uncertain period with the health crisis. ”
–
It is the youngest who are more interested in it. According to a study YouGov for Femina published in August 2020, one in two young people said they believed in astrology. No wonder for Sophie Hérolt Petitpas since this generation is “in search of meaning” and knows “that it will be faced with big challenges”.

Perfect content to modernize the theme
Astrology is considered a tool for personal development. On social networks, the most popular accounts dust off this theme by popularizing with memes or by choosing humor to convey the messages. The publications are designed for a young and connected audience: there is color, the illustrations speak to everyone and the explanations are easily and quickly understood.

“I really thought of a brand image with a brand identity. I really wanted the people who arrive in the Astrolya universe to be transported. I thought of a color code, of a way of addressing people who were going to read the daily publications ”, Shana Lyès tells us. His posts aim to capture the attention of Internet users by piquing their curiosity.

The contents are pleasant and can be easily shared between friends. Shana Lyès is confident, this enthusiasm is not likely to run out of steam.
