Finnish forward Rope Hinz has signed a new eight-year, $67.6 million (€65.3 million) contract with the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League (NHL). Hintz signed the contract on Tuesday.
The striker, who could become a free agent after the season, achieved his NHL records for goals and assists in the 2021/2022 season. This is the final season for the 26-year-old forward of a three-year, $9.45 million (€9.1 million) deal that he signed with the Dallas club on November 9, 2020.
“Hintz is a dynamic two-way center who has proven himself to be one of the best at his position in the NHL,” said Stars general manager Jim Nill. “He has become one of our most versatile players, with equal impact on majority and minority teams.”
Hinz has 24 points (eight goals and 16 assists) in 22 games this season, tied for third place on the team. Hintz also ranks third on the team in +/- percentage (+13). The “Stars” selected the player in the second round of the 2015 NHL draft with the number 49. He amassed 194 points (88 goals and 106 assists) in 261 NHL regular season games and 25 points (nine goals and 16 assists) in 44 Stanley Cup games.
In 2020, he had 13 points (two goals and 11 assists) in 25 postseason games, helping the Stars reach the Stanley Cup Finals, where they lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.
Last season, Hintz finished third in scoring for the Stars and set career NHL highs in goals (37), assists (35) and points (72), averaging 18 minutes and two seconds in 80 games. “Stars” with a balance of 13-6-4 takes second place in the Western Conference.
