She passed away at the age of 95

Italian actress Gina Lollobrigida has died at the age of 95, the ANSA agency reported on Monday, as quoted by Reuters.

Lollobrigida became famous in the 1950s. After retiring from the world of cinema, he became a photographer and sculptor.

Born into a working-class family in a poor mountainous area east of Rome, she studied sculpture and broke into the world of cinema after finishing third in the Miss Italy beauty pageant in 1947.

One of her first performances was as Gemma, the unfortunate adulteress, in director Mario Soldati’s 1953 film La Provinciale.

She became known in Italy with the main roles in two Italian comedies by Luigi Comencini – “Bread, Love and Fantasy” and “Bread, Love and Jealousy”.

However, the films “Fanfan Tulip” from 1952 and “Our Lady of Paris” from 1956 brought her world fame.

Lollobrigida is the winner of a number of awards, including “Golden Globe”, “Donatello’s David”, “Bambi”.
