NEW YORK (Reuters) – The index closed lower on Wednesday after a string of disappointing corporate earnings revived concerns about the economic impact of the U.S. Federal Reserve’s hawkish policy.
All US stock indices trimmed their losses during afternoon trading, to close away from their lowest levels for the session.
According to preliminary data, the Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell 0.73 points, or 0.02 percent, to close at 4016.22 points, while the Nasdaq Composite Index fell 20.92 points, or 0.20 percent, to close at 11313.35 points. The Composite Index rose 5.67 points, or 0.03 percent, to close at 33,742.72 points.
