Member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Oleg Dyachenko explained why passport control and car checks were returned at the border with Russia. According to him, all this is done in order to “block the illegal supply of weapons across the border.”
Speaking on the air of Alfa Radio, Dyachenko declared about the need to strengthen the security of Belarus, including by strengthening border control. According to him, in the context of the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which is going on in the neighborhood, weapons and ammunition can be illegally transported to Belarus in the “gray zone”.
“Through Russia, not only psychotropic drugs, drugs, but also weapons can get to us. It is necessary to strengthen the security of the entire society,” the Belarusian parliamentarian stressed.
“Here everything will primarily depend on us. We need to strengthen our security in all areas so that people continue to live under a peaceful sky and do not think that at the entrance to the metro, for example, a radical may appear and commit another terrorist attack, ”he added.
Recall that since May 5, checks and passport control have been returned at the border of Belarus and Russia. The CPC of Belarus called them “monitoring of the situation” and said that checkpoints would be set up only at six points on the border with Russia. They argued this with events within the framework of the “ratification agreement on the mutual recognition of visas with Russia.”
However, after a long weekend in May, long queues formed at the Belarusian-Russian border. Some motorists took more than 6 hours to overcome one and a half kilometers before the border.
