More than 4,000 individual participations of librarians from public libraries are expected to be registered in the trainings organized under the “Global Libraries-Bulgaria” Program from now until the end of the year.
The training program of “Global Libraries – Bulgaria” includes training in “Information and communication technologies”, “Organization and management of work in the public library”, “Services in the modern library”, “Communication and work with users and communities”, “Advocacy, fundraising and project development”.
The trainings are held in the 27 regional and 12 community libraries, acting as learning bases for the program, according to the methodology and with teaching aids specially developed for the purposes of the program.
The Advocacy, Fundraising and Project Development training is new and is being introduced this year. The aim is to increase the capacity of librarians to advocate for the cause of public libraries, to research and respond to the needs of local communities, to attract financial resources, to work on projects.
In 2011, over 3,300 individual trainings for librarians were held.
13,875 citizens were also trained, and another 78,832 received consultation and professional help from the librarians.
“Global Libraries – Bulgaria” program is an initiative of the Ministry of Culture and the United Nations Development Program. It unites professionals, institutions and organizations who believe that public libraries will improve the quality of life by providing free access to information and exchange of ideas .
960 libraries equipped under the program offer computers and free Internet access to citizens in 895 settlements throughout the country. The program is financed through a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and an investment from the local government and the state budget.
