“We have high expectations for our athletes. Most of them are reasonable. Sometimes they don’t come true, there are surprises”. Sports Minister Georgi Glushkov stated this in an interview with BNT. He expressed gratitude to all the athletes and their teams for their performance at the Olympics. He reminded how difficult it is to reach the Games because of the great competition.
“We have reason to be very satisfied,” he was emphatic.
All young people have dreams, said Georgi Glushkov. And he added that there are many inspiring destinies that are proof that dreams and goals should be pursued.
“These talents who represented Bulgaria at the Olympics chose our country voluntarily because we, together with the federations and clubs, were able to offer such conditions that they could achieve their dreams and results under the Bulgarian flag.”
He specified that he is very happy for them, because they feel Bulgaria as their home, and they themselves as Bulgarians.
“Yes, it is easy to welcome and cheer those who have achieved success, but I want to say that it is even more important to welcome and support those who have not been able to achieve results. To me, this is more – important because they have to continue the hard work”.
He is sure that those athletes who, because of small mistakes, were punished by fate, will dream of all these mistakes, and this will make them even stronger and more ambitious. Expressed support for the great talent of our athletes, as well as for the character they showed at the Paris Games.
Regarding the scandals during the women’s boxing Olympics, the acting minister was adamant that this problem should have been resolved before the start of the Olympics, so that such a case did not happen.
“It has cast a huge shadow on the sport. I think it is the task of the IOC to be ready before the Olympic Games such cases are clear with regulations that leave no room for doubt about the bad part of the sport that they showed”.
He expects the report that the federations will make to be critical because it will be important for the next leadership.
