The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition surpassed its “hey buy” big brother, Skyrim Legendary Edition, to become the game with the most mods downloaded on Nexusmods. About six years after the release, Skyrim Special Edition managed to achieve this.
Now Skyrim Special Edition has over 1.9 billion downloads of its mods. Skyrim Legendary Edition is still the game with the most mods available with around 69.2k. At the same time, 58 thousand mods for Skyrim Special Edition are available for download.
Nexusmods is obviously not the only site to download and download mods, but the most popular. The site has generated 6 billion downloads and hosts mods for around 2,000 games.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the best modding games as it offers a lot of freedom to the modders. Bethesda officially released Skyrim on November 11, 2011. Since its release, the game has received a lot of improvements in every aspect thanks to the mods created by the community.
Later, a special edition was released on October 28, 2016. Skyrim Special Edition has made many improvements over previous versions of the game. The game was further developed with the release of the Anniversary Edition update on November 11, 2021.
Skyrim Legendary Edition has led Nexusmods with the most mods and downloads for about a decade. However, Skyrim Special Edition has finally taken the lead after six years of release.
From minor bug fixes to major DLC mods, the modding community has supported Skyrim even a decade after its release.
Bethesda deserves some credit for giving modders that kind of freedom. Their games have always been a favorite in terms of modding. The next Starfield should do it it will give the community the same freedom.
