The Spanish Society of Epidemiology recalled that the flu vaccine reduces the risk of contracting pneumonia. He did so at the Vaccination Conference of this entity, held at the Carlos III Health Institute.
In addition, he addressed the importance of the monkeypox vaccine, which is helping to reduce cases of this disease. The day was also starred byhe needs of the population and the availability of new vaccines, since they determine vaccination calendars and programs, according to experts. The objective of this meeting was to reflect on this, to make use of the available vaccines increasingly tailored to the needs of citizens.
The epidemiologists analyzed the challenges facing vaccination programs today and they paid special attention to risk groups, influenza vaccination and monkeypox.
The experts, when they spoke about the pneumonia as one of the main complications of the flupresented an epidemiological study carried out on more than 5,000 patients and concluded that the flu vaccine reduces pneumonia with an effectiveness of 16%. They described this effectiveness as “modest, but interesting.”
Furthermore, they assured that the “Vulnerable population” is already a challenge in itself because it brings together pathologies that, sometimes, are not comparable to each other and to which the same risks cannot be attributed. For this reason, they stated that “the first step to improve vaccination coverage in these groups is to know which population you want to reach and how to do it.”
Likewise, while addressing the control of monkeypox, they explained that the role of vaccination against this disease is “very relevant” in consolidating control of the outbreak. The incidence of the disease decreased and the number of new cases reported last September fell by 16.2%, compared to the previous month, according to epidemiologists.
Likewise, they detailed that more than 50,000 monkeypox vaccines were administered in Spain and that they are currently 79% effective.
