The Spanish have it clear on mobile phones: Xiaomi

The market of applications Uptodown has presented a report on the brands and models of Android smartphones most used in the world. Around 130 million unique users per month, spread across the globe, use Uptodown to download apps and games on Android. 82% of the total access the web through their smartphone compared to 14% who do so on the desktop, and thanks to the data collected during the month of October, Uptodown has been able to create a map with the most popular Android terminals in the different areas of the globe today.

Samsung tops the top, with 35% of the total, of the most used smartphone brands by users all over the planet. The South Korean multinational has a wide range of devices that make up the different ranges of the seal, with the Galaxy J2 Prime and the Galaxy A10s being the most common Samsung terminals. The first of them was launched in November 2016, and it is still the mobile phone in the pocket of many users today. The most popular Chinese manufacturers, Xiaomi and Huawei, compete for the next two places on the podium, when it comes to the most popular brands worldwide. Xiaomi occupies the second ranking with 13% of users of the total (specifically, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 is its most popular terminal in the world, whose first models were launched in September 2019) and Huawei occupies the third place in the ranking with 12.7% of all users.

With regard to Spain, in the top 5 of the most popular terminals are three mobile phones from the Chinese Xiaomi. Specifically, the Xiaomi Redmi 9 model is the most used among Spaniards, a terminal of just over 100 euros (139 on Amazon) that has been a best seller, taking 6.6% of the market, closely followed by Huawei nova 7i (5.8%), a mid-range terminal that has four cameras and in third place is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 (5.4%), a model slightly higher than the first.

Fourth, a Xiaomi model is once again observed, in this case the protagonist of its 2019 mid-range, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T, followed by a Samsung, the Galaxy A12, its most recent entry-level proposal, launched at the beginning of this 2021.

Spain is very representative of the results in the rest of the continent: In southern Europe, the Huawei nova 7i ranks as the most popular Android terminal with 4.2% (this model is also the second most used in Spain). While our neighbors further north (Norway, Germany, Sweden …) opt for the Samsung Galaxy A21s, belonging to the mid-range of the brand. In Eastern Europe (Russia, Ukraine, Romania …) 3.6% of users carry a Xiaomi Redmi 9.

America, big differences between north and south

Samsung’s 2021 model, the Galaxy A12, of the cheapest range, is the most popular in North America, while Central America 4.9% and South America (4%) choose the Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime, a model of mid-range, but in this case, much older, as it was launched in 2016. In the Caribbean it is surprising that it is not a mobile phone, but a tablet, the terminal most used by Uptodown users to download applications (6 , 4% of users used this terminal). We are talking about the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7: a simple 10.4-inch tablet designed for the entertainment of the whole family, launched in 2020.

Africa, the domain of Techno

The Chinese company Tecno has found its ideal market in Africa. Created in 2006, it is a Transsion Holdings mobile phone brand, which exceeds in market share in the area the best-known brands on the planet, adapting its models perfectly to the local African market. In East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda…) with 4.2%, and in West Africa (Cape Verde, Senegal, Nigeria…) with 4.6% of users, the dominant terminal is the Tecno F1. This model, launched in 2019, is a low-end Android mobile with a 5-inch screen and a simple operating system, although enough power to watch a movie or play video games, and with a price adapted to its market, just under 50 €. In Central Africa (Congo, Angola, Zambia …) they also choose Tecno, but in this case the winning model is the Tecno KE5 Spark Go 2020, a mid-range terminal of the brand, launched last year, and that wins by a landslide at rest of the models used in the area, being chosen by 6.9% of users.Only North Africa departs from this trend of Tecno mobiles, as the most popular mobile in areas such as Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria or Egypt is the Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime from 2016.

Asia, the easternmost part of the continent is the best equipped

Almost 9% of users in the easternmost part of the continent (Korea, Japan, China …) choose the Huawei Mate 30, a high-end mobile launched in 2019 with some of the most cutting-edge features of the mobile market at that time, placing it as the world area where users choose more powerful terminals with more features, in addition to having a higher budget on average. This represents a great difference with the rest of the continent: Southeast Asia (the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, etc.) and the westernmost part of Asia, which includes countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey or Iran, coincide in the supremacy. of the Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime, the aforementioned 2016 terminal that is also the most popular in other areas of the planet such as North Africa and South America. In Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan …) 5.6% of terminals are Samsung Galaxy A10, the cheapest of the Galaxy range. In South Asia the most used terminal is the Vivo 1820 Y91C, a model under € 100 popular especially in India.
